�That was coulda-been, shoulda-been indie power-pop/rock four-piece Ruteger, who formed in 1997 after singer-songwriter Shann Lions put an ad in a Bendigo music shop window. It was answered by Josh McGuffie (lead guitar/vocals), Jamie Brew (bass/vocals), and Gav Moncrieff (drums).
�Ruteger’s first album, Stuffed Animal Parade, came out in 2001, followed by the EPs South Tech and Just For You in 2002.
�The band extensively toured Australia, supporting The Church, You Am I, Magic Dirt, The Fauves, Wolfmother, and Motor Ace, and was feted in the music press (Beat, InPress, Sanity) and on radio (Triple J, Triple R, PBS, ABC Radio National). They placed second in Rolling Stone’s Live The Dream unsigned band competition in 2003.
�Ruteger released its second album, Formation Of Flight, followed by a self-titled EP the following year which lead to the band being signed by Shock Records.
�Creative differences and internal friction led to Ruteger disbanding in 2005, an event that made the front page of the Bendigo Advertiser.
�From the ashes of a never-released third Ruteger album, Lions (Under his own name) put out a self-titled solo effort in 2006, followed by the Beautiful Mistake EP, before taking a near decade long hiatus from music.
�Shann Lions re-emerged in late 2014 as the frontman for Bendigo-based roots rockers Four Lions. They have recorded five albums and are currently working on a sixth.
Shann also has become a multi instrumentalist producing a solo record under the name Mystic Park as well as fronting Relays a punk band who released their debut record in 2024.
Ruteger reform for one show only to celebrate 20 years since they called it a day!
