Settle in for an evening of exquisitely crafted rural roots and folk music, steeped in tradition and delivered with exceptional musicality. This show features heartfelt, authentic songwriting, beautifully framed by banjos and deep vocal harmonies. Expect songs that draw on Canadiana and old-time genres, weaving stories of rural life, love, and resilience with conviction and delicacy. It’s an intimate and moving journey through sound that feels both timeless and profoundly contemporary.
Pharis and Jason Romero are pure craftspeople and top-notch musicians. They have won four Juno awards and seven Canadian Folk Music Awards. They live in the wilderness town of Horsefly, British Columbia, where they write songs, learn old music, and work as renowned banjo builders J. Romero Banjos. Their newest record, Tell ‘Em You Were Gold (2022), was recorded in an old barn in six days by a wood stove. The album is built around the beauty of their banjos and the pair’s deep psychic and artistic connection, delivered with conviction and delicacy and stunning singing. Their songs, which often reflect on traveling and rural life, are deeply moving and give the listener space for a unique and personal experience.
