Pilates is an excellent choice of complimentary training for a runner as it is very low impact so will not place the body under further stress while strengthening the very important core stabilising muscles and helping maintain good biomechanics under fatigue. If you think core strengthening is the only benefit you will reap from Pilates practise then think again because it may even improve your running performance!In this hour’s session you will be taken through a 45 minute Pilates class specific for runners, followed by 15 minutes of mobility drills. The Pilates element will take you through 8 moves aimed at strengthening the core stabilising muscles, including your back and hips but also your feet! You will also be taught breath control, stability and balance drills. It can be as tough or as easy as you make it! The mobility drills will take you through very specific moves for runners which will highlight the difference of stretching v mobility. It’s a lively, fun and maybe a bit of a tough session (if you want it to be!)
