Dear Rubicon Cinema friends,
We are excited to host Eileen Maxson, a filmmaker and educator currently based in Oberlin, Ohio. The artist will present her film program “Personal Effects” that brings together early experiments in persona and found footage with more recent collaborations made with Maxson’s parents. Spanning two decades, the program will examine an American inheritance without a return policy, tested on camera and at home with melancholic humor and unease.

About the artist
Eileen Maxson’s videos mix analog aesthetics, invented personas, and family drama to recast media and inherited scripts with dry, unsettling humor. She has exhibited and screened her work at the Wexner Center for the Arts (The Box), the Queens Museum, the Museum of the Moving Image, and Light Industry. Her solo exhibition Parent Trap at Keijsers Koning was named one of the best exhibitions of 2024 by Glasstire.
Maxson is currently based in Oberlin, Ohio, where she is Visiting Assistant Professor of Intermedia at Oberlin College. She received her BFA from the University of Houston, her MFA from Carnegie Mellon University, and attended De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
