As an award-winning comic artist who has attended comic festivals around the world, Ruan Guang’s insights on people, history, and culture provides a nuance to the art of storytelling. Ruan’s comics, with their urban feel and honest depictions of the lives and memories of Taiwanese people, has left a deep impression on readers.
Taking us through his notable works including adapted-for-TV series like Yong-jiu Grocery Store and novel-to-comic adaptations such as The Illusionist on the Skywalk, Ruan will dive into the heart of telling stories. How do the stories of Taiwanese people resonate with the people half-way across the globe? How does culture and language influence Asian comics, from Japanese manga to Korean manhwa, to Chinese and Taiwanese manhua? How do comics teach us about life, relationships, and ourselves?
