A visit to RSPB Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve & RSPB St Aidens Nature Reserve in Leeds, West Yorkshire.RSPB Fairburn Ings NR, Lin Dike Car, Newton Ln, Castleford WF10 2AA

If leaving Skipton at 8am, then, approximately 1 hour 10 mins & 34 miles (each way).
We will meet at Lin Dike car park and do a circular walk up to the viewing screens taking in Lin Dike and Hickson’s Flash. Here we might see Willow Tit, Greater Spotted and Green Woodpecker, Spoonbill plus other wildfowl, waders, swans and geese.
We will then move on to St Aidens. This is a large site, and we will decide on the day the route(s) we might take. We will see lots of wildfowl & gulls; highlights might be Bittern, Cetti’s Warbler, Little Owl, Kestrel, Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, & Grebes. This day will be flexible based on participants and how long the group lingers to allow for the most at any one site.
Facilities: Car parking. Free admission for members, £4 for non-members. Toilets. Cafe & picnic area.
Wheelchair accessible and Mobility Scooter available to hire (pre-booking required). Dogs are welcome on the public footpaths and bridleways around the reserve.
Habitats: Wet grassland, open water and reedbed.

All field trips will meet at the designated reserve car park, having left Skipton at 8.00am. Travel arrangements and lifts will be organised by Jane Beazley at either the previous indoor meeting or by way of the field trips WhatsApp group; alternatively, please contact Jane on
07507 836711. A small contribution of 10p per mile is suggested if you are in someone else’s car.
Bring lunch, warm clothing, waterproofs and appropriate footwear. Optics if you have them as they will be useful.
RSPB members and non-members, novice and experienced birdwatchers are welcome on the field trips. Field Trip Organiser Jane Beazley who, with others, will be on hand to guide and assist you with bird recognition if necessary. Dependant on participating numbers we hope to spend the day as a group sharing knowledge and helping any newcomers. Pace will be slow and mindful of everyone.
Bird sightings will be recorded and made available to the group.
