RSA Challenge: future of school education in Scotland

It will be held at the University of Edinburgh on 11 June 2026 and is intended to be the first in a series of events that aims to help shape the future direction of Scottish education.

This is not a traditional conference but a space for honest dialogue, fresh thinking and collective problem‑solving. Drawing on the convening power of the RSA, this event brings together people who want to think boldly and work constructively on meaningful reform. Together, we will look beyond incremental change and consider what education could become — more relevant, more responsive and more empowering for young people and for Scotland more broadly.

Professors Donaldson and Chapman (University of Glasgow) will open the event with insights from their series of papers, ‘Where Next for Scottish Education’.

To participate in this event, you will need to register for a ticket so that we can manage capacity. Our events are frequently oversubscribed so if you are subsequently unable to attend, please cancel your Eventbrite booking so we can make room for others on the Wait List.
