Route 66 Opening Celebration & Think & Drink
About this Event
Join the Gaylord Building Historic Site and Gallery Seven for the opening of Roadside Attractions: Art and History on Route 66. This special evening combines an exhibition reception with our monthly Think & Drink, featuring Ron Romero and special guest Skip Griparis.
6–7 p.m. — Exhibition Opening
Founders’ Gallery, third floor
Explore original artwork and historical displays that bring the Mother Road’s people, places, and creativity into focus. From roadside businesses and neon signs to the highway’s enduring influence on American culture, discover how Route 66 became much more than a road.
7–8 p.m. — Think & Drink: “Stay on Route 66”
Banquet Room, second floor
Head downstairs for stories and live music exploring the connections between Route 66 and American music. Ron Romero, founder and CEO of the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66, will be joined by singer, guitarist, and impressionist Skip Griparis, an Illinois Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
Griparis’s career includes performing with the New Colony Six, touring with Olivia Newton-John, and appearing alongside Bob Uecker in the Major League films. Together, Romero and Griparis will help us celebrate the Mother Road and its musical legacy.
One free registration covers the entire evening. Registration is encouraged.
Roadside Attractions: Art and History on Route 66 will remain on view through March 24, 2027.
