Robert "Robby" Groover is a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran (Staff Sergeant) who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning a Purple Heart for combat wounds from an IED blast, and now leads as President/CEO of the Florida Veterans Coalition (FVC), providing support and resources for fellow veterans in Florida. Vietnam veteran Father Bob Swick established the Florida Veterans Coalition in Clearwater over 20 years ago to meet the needs of local military members transitioning into civilian life. Today, the Coalition serves veterans across 51 counties in Florida, and it hopes to expand even further soon.
Robby Groover just celebrated his first year as President and CEO of the Florida Veterans Coalition. But as a U.S. Army veteran and dedicated advocate with extensive experience in the non-profit world, he was affiliated with the Coalition long before taking on a leadership role. “Father Bob has always been a guiding force for the veterans in our community, and it was an honor to be able to take his legacy and push that into the new horizon, which is the next generation of veterans,” Groover said.
The Coalition aims not only to alleviate immediate hardships but also to build a cohesive network of support and camaraderie among veteran service organizations. Robby and his team strive to bring understanding, compassion and positivity to veterans struggling through everyday challenges. “That’s our goal,” Groover said, “to give people hope.”
Beau Blouin, Chief Advancement Officer, shared his own experience working for the Coalition as a veteran. “It’s important for me to be a part of the Florida Veterans Coalition because I know what it’s like to transition out of the military and have to build everything on my own,” he said. “We get to help the transitioning service member at the most crucial time of their life, when they’re reforming their identity and rebuilding their families. It’s one of the most important things that we can do.”
