Special screening featuring a post-film discussion with filmmaker Mark Jenkin, moderated by author Paul Tremblay!
When a fishing boat, the Rose of Nevada, lost with all hands 30 years ago, mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, for those who remember, it’s surely a sign. The boat must go out to sea again and maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn.
Young father Nick (George MacKay) and enigmatic newcomer Liam (Callum Turner) join captain Murgey (Francis Magee), and they head to sea. But when they return, something is amiss — they’ve slipped back in time, and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew.
ROSE OF NEVADA is Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin’s hotly anticipated and critically acclaimed follow-up to his BAFTA-award-winning first feature BAIT (2019) and ENYS MEN (2022). Unique among British feature filmmakers for the analogue way in which he crafts his films, Jenkin once again serves as writer, director, director of photography, editor, sound designer and score composer.
About Mark Jenkin:
Mark Jenkin’s breakout film, BAIT, was hailed by Empire Magazine as “A rare find that is a truly original feature by a British director” and won the Outstanding Debut BAFTA in 2020. It went on to collect 7 major international awards. Mark Kermode, writing in The Observer, described it as “One of the defining British films of the decade”.
His follow-up, Bosena produced and Film4 backed ENYS MEN, premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2022 and was picked up by NEON. Sight and Sound described the film as “A revelatory experience”, Tim Robey writing in the Daily Telegraph called it “Lo-fi folk horror heaven” while Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian found it, “Supremely Disquieting”. Mark was awarded a BIFA in 2023 for his sound design on the film.
He has just completed his new film ROSE OF NEVADA starring BAFTA nominees George MacKay (1917) and Callum Turner (Masters of the Air).
His prolific, critically acclaimed short film output includes I SAW THE FACE OF GOD IN THE JET WASH (2025), A DOG CALLED DISCORD (2023) commissioned by the BFI to open the Film on Film Festival, VERTICAL SHAPES IN A HORIZONTAL LANDSCAPE (2018), and mid-length BRONCO’S HOUSE (2014).
