About this Event
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging along with Academic Affairs at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology are excited to host our annual Spring Convocation. Each year we honor an impactful person in history who represents our values of diversity, inclusion, and belonging. This year we are honoring Octavia Butler, famed science fiction author, scholar, and Hugo Award winner.
Tomi Adeyemi, author, speaker, and teacher, will join us as our guest speaker to commemorate Octavia Butler's legacy and share insights on her research, writing, and creative process. Named one of TIME magazine's 100 most influential people, Tomi Champion-Adeyemi is a Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Nigerian-American writer and storyteller. Her novels Children of Blood and Bone and it’s sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, debuted at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list. Tomi’s Children of Blood and Bone trilogy is currently being developed into a feature film.
