About this Event
Are you interested in spending less time in the Ph*rm*cy and more time in the forest?
Looking for alternatives to over-the-counter and prescription medications that you can grow in your own backyard?
Would you like to be able to support your family and friends with effective and safe natural remedies for non-complicated health concerns?
This 6-week series is a great way to learn more about herbal medicine, how to make your own remedies, and better understand and be able to alleviate various ailments.
Thursday evenings from June 6th - July 11th, join medical herbalists Alina Baker and Zhyfhs Millicent in the gardens at Innisfree Farm for educational and hands-on classes.
Each 90-minute session will focus on safe and effective remedies to address a spectrum of minor health complaints as well as how to recognize the signs and symptoms that medical interventions are necessary. You will have the opportunity to meet and interact with many of the medicinal plants discussed and will leave each class with a hand-made remedy, seeds, or cuttings to begin building your herbal medicine cabinet.
Topics to be Discussed:
- How to be more "medically self-reliant" to prevent disease, avoid unnecessary trips to the doctor's office, and reduce pharmaceutical dependency.
- Important “Red Flags” to know when it's time to seek medical attention.
- Basics of herbal formulation and preparation (teas, decoctions, tinctures, vinegar infusions, salves, and infused oils).
- How to grow, harvest, and prepare medicinal herbs to ensure optimal potency and safety.
- Principles of sustainable wild-crafting, harvesting techniques, and building plant relationships.
- The roots of herbal medicine and the role of the "community herbalist" in addressing the healthcare crises of our time.
- Simple and effective herbal protocols for addressing a wide variety of non-complicated health concerns (immune system, pain, digestive issues, sleep, hormones, and herbal first aid).
