Kindred Futures and the Southern Poverty Law Center invite you to the Roots of Wealth in Alabama Convening, a gathering in Montgomery focused on building Black wealth and economic power across Alabama and the broader South.

This event is a focused, action-oriented community gathering that brings data, lived experience, and local relationships into one room. Together we will move from national trends to local action, and from research to the coalition relationships that sustain long-term change.

What participants should expect

Over the morning, we will:

• Open with a presentation of the Roots of Wealth research, grounded in Alabama's specific history, policy landscape, and economic conditions, with a live look at the Black Wealth Dashboard for the state.
• Hear from a panel of local practitioners and advocates working on the front lines of community wealth-building.
• Participate in a working session where attendees help shape shared priorities and identify next steps for collective action.

Who should attend

We are bringing together the people who move this work forward: community leaders, small business owners and the organizations that support them, municipal and policy partners, philanthropy, CDFIs and financial institutions, legal and financial service providers, faith institutions, and local press.
