About this Event
Welcome to the Rooftop Garden Series: Natural Dye and Shibori Workshop at Richmond Library and Cultural Centre!
Join us on Sun, Jul 07, 2024 at 1:00 PM for a fun and creative afternoon with our host, artist Fernanda Mascarenhas.
This workshop combines two techniques: shibori and natural dyeing with plants.
Shibori (絞 り) is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces a number of different patterns on fabric. Learn some basic ways of tying, pinching and folding fabrics using rubber bands, clamps, pegs, and string, to create a one-of-a-kind cotton bandana.
The workshop also explores the beauty of natural colour using plants. Teaching how to extract pigments from plants or food waste to make a dye bath, dye your own shibori-bandanas with 2 or 3 colours of choice, made from plants or food waste such as spices, flowers, and vegetable skins.
All materials provided. For ages 19+.
Fee: $5.00 + taxes
Limited to 12 participants
