Talk at PRONI in partnership with the Northern Ireland War Memorial
About this Event

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), in partnership with the Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM), welcomes you to a talk by military historian Richard Doherty.

This talk will give a brief outline of the Anti-Aircraft (AA) defences of Northern Ireland during the Second World War, how those defences were controlled, co-operation with the Royal Air Force, principal locations of AA defences in gun defended areas (GDAs) and the equipment used by the AA regiments – heavy guns, light guns, searchlights and rockets. How strong were the AA defences, what were their weaknesses and what were their strengths.

About the speaker:

Richard Doherty is a military historian and author of over 30 published books as well as many journal, magazine and newspaper articles. He has lectured across the UK, Ireland and in the United States and leads battlefield studies, particularly in Italy and France. In addition, he has presented radio and TV programmes and participated in many others, including twice contributing to ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’
