TIMING

Distance to Rome: plan roughly 60–90 minutes each way depending on train and connections.
Return buffer: aim to be back at the Civitavecchia port area 90–120 minutes before all-aboard due to distance and potential delays.
GETTING TO ROME
Port to town: free or paid shuttle buses typically run from the ship to the port gates; from there it’s about a 20–25 minute walk or a short local bus/taxi to Civitavecchia train station.
Trains: frequent regional trains run to Rome (Roma San Pietro for the Vatican area, Roma Ostiense/Metro Piramide, and Roma Termini for central connections). Within Rome: Metro and buses cover major sights; taxis are plentiful at hubs—confirm the fare or ensure the meter is on.
