Based on her recent university tour during Women’s History Month, Wendy Rodrigue Magnus hosts an engaging afternoon of storytelling and art history surrounding the life and art of her late husband, George Rodrigue.
Although best known for his Blue Dog Series, George Rodrigue (1944-2013) painted hundreds of images of women. These include the Cajun legends, Jolie Blonde and Evangeline, and the mystical Native American, Evergreen Lake. He also painted expressive portraits of his friends, such as the Grand Dame de Santa Fe, Rosalea Murphy, founder of the Pink Adobe Restaurant.
More than any other human subject, Rodrigue painted his wife, Wendy, completing hundreds of paintings and drawings over twenty years. In time, she came to question her role not only within Rodrigue's personal and artistic legacy, but also regarding her own story and identity.
Join Wendy Rodrigue Magnus for an intimate and inspiring afternoon of art and storytelling, accompanied by original George Rodrigue paintings and sculptures from her personal collection, many recently returned from exhibitions. Organized by Santa Fe Community College Continuing Ed and open to all, this class is held off campus in Wendy’s shared studio with her current husband and special guest, artist Douglas Magnus. Space is limited.
100% of Wendy’s proceeds from these SFCC Continuing Ed classes support her outreach in Santa Fe Public Schools.
