ROD PAINE & THE FULLTIME LOVERS are one of the most popularly requested Feature Act appearances at MBAS. Still cooking up a music stew based on dirty electric Blues, Roots and R&B of the early sixties, with splashes of Country balladry, Gospel, Americana and Rock n Roll. This award winning outfit enjoyed wide acclaim with their last Blues/Roots chart-topping album success “Dirt on Velvet”, and their follow-up release "Live at Port Noarlunga Blues Festival” even bigger proof the music evolution of this great mainstay act.
Out front on vocals and harmonica, the charismatic ROD PAINE is a stylish showman with one of the most soulful and inspiring voices in this land. Charming audiences for over 30 years, he has walked the stages throughout the country delivering a sound somewhere between Muscle Shoals and mid-sixties electric Blues. Add the broken-up harp sound emanating from his little 40-year-old amp, and he is hard to draw a comparison with. RAY TULLY and TONY HARWOOD form a dynamic rhythm section that is the backbone of the act. Performing together for over 34 years, this tight rhythm unit has graced various Roots music line-ups such as The Sensational Rocket 88’s, The Redliners, The Detonators and Straight 8’s to name just a few. In 2014, the extraordinary CO TIPPING joined the lineup to take over guitar duties, wielding the Fender Stratocaster in his inimitable style. The later addition to the lineup of MICHAEL SHANNON on Hammond organ has entrenched him as an indispensable part of the band and the ‘The Fulltime Lovers’ sound.

ABOUT THE MBAS: Formed in 1990, the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society (MBAS) is a not-for-profit organisation run by a volunteer team of blues music lovers. MBAS hosts free Tuesday night live music events and jams at its clubhouse at Flemington Bowls Club, alongside producing special ticketed events and a free "Blues Weekly" e-newsletter. All MBAS initiatives – including the annual International Blues Challenge, Women 'N' Blues and Youth in Blues Programs – are funded by weekly raffle drives, Membership fees and donations.
