Join Rockland County for a public hearing for the Rockland Riverway Trail on August 13!
About this Event

On Thursday, August 13, Rockland County will be hosting an in-person public hearing to share updates on the Rockland Riverway Trail’s progress and collect community input on the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) as part of the upcoming comment period.

What is a Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS)?

The Comment Period, which begins July 29 and ends August 24, is the next step in the environmental review process for the project. During this public comment period, Rockland County will collect verbal and written comments from the public that will contribute to the development of the Draft General Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS). The DGEIS is a comprehensive document that evaluates a project’s long-term potential environmental, social, and economic impacts to comply with federal, state, or local review.

On July 29, Rockland County will publish a DGEIS hearing notice, which starts a public comment period where the public can review and comment on the DGEIS.

The document is available for review prior to the meeting at: rockland-riverwaytrail.com

The document includes information about:

  • The project’s purpose and needs
  • Project elements that Rockland County will consider during the project timeline
  • Alternatives that will be evaluated in the DGEIS

Public input is an important part of the DGEIS process. All comments received verbally or in writing during the public comment period will be formally included in the DGEIS – your input is important!

About the Public Hearing

The meeting will be hosted in-person in the Besso Room in the Palisades Center on August 13, beginning at 5 PM.

During the meeting, the project team will give a brief presentation on Rockland Riverway Trail updates and an overview of the project’s DGEIS process and next steps towards final design.

Following the presentation, registered commenters will have an opportunity to share comments of no more than 3 minutes on what alternatives and what environmental impacts should be studied in the development of the project.
