The Aaron Lohmeyer Trio
Saxophonist Aaron Lohmeyer has spent most of his life within walking distance to the Mississippi River. Whether in Hannibal (MO), St. Louis, New Orleans, Quincy (IL), or Winona, living in community with the music cultures traveling up and down this waterway has constructed a creative practice that values both the strict confines of a disciplinary approach and the freedom from figuring it out. Since his first gigs as a teenager playing for the Mid-Mississippi Muddy Waters Blues Fest in the 90s, his influences in blues, metal, folk, classical, and jazz have pushed him into performance collaborations with digital sound artists, Athabaskan drummers, punk guitarists, early music specialists, live visual art designers, and, of course, a wide range of jazz artists. After earning his BA in Religion from Davidson College, he earned his MM Saxophone, M.Ed in Music Education, and PhD in Music Education from Florida State University. He is currently Associate Professor of Music Education and Jazz at Winona State University.
Jazz Pianist, Matt Whited, is a professor of Chemistry at Carleton College. He and Aaron first connected musically 25 years ago as undergrads at Davidson College. Producer, Drummer, and Bassist, Alex Ortberg, is a graduate of Iowa State and Berklee. Ortberg is also owner of Blue Lagoon Recording Studios.
