We’ve already got an exciting lineup taking shape – and this is only the beginning, with many more activities, partners and attractions still to be announced.
Families can look forward to a fun-filled day of hands-on activities, live demonstrations, creative experiences, interactive discussions and inspiring opportunities to discover more about science and future careers. With schools, universities, industry partners and community organisations all taking part, there will be something for children, young people, adults, and grandparents to enjoy together.
Highlights confirmed so far include a showcase of climate science work from a consortium of schools led by Falinge Park High School, with students trained by Science Made Simple and science busking legend David Price to share their learning with families and visitors. We’ll also welcome back The Grange School with their “Manchester Acid Rain” workshop, alongside an astronomy project created with our home education group and supported by Todmorden Astronomy Centre. Visitors will be able to explore world-class research with the Daresbury Laboratory Public Engagement Team, while colleagues from NCAS (National Centre for Atmospheric Science), based at the University of Manchester and the University of Leeds, will use the STFC supercomputer to bring global air pollution trends to life in engaging and interactive ways. These activities will also inspire families to take part in creating a collaborative sculptural artwork together on the day.
RSI will also present "Chemistry of Curries”, a fun hands-on experience exploring the science behind food, culture and everyday life. Visitors will also be able to enjoy chemistry experiments and a careers stall from Manchester Metropolitan University’s Chemistry team, led by Dr Tim Gabriel. Other exciting activities include Touchstones’ “Build the Change (Lego)”, AstraZeneca’s “Medicine Makers”, and contributions from departments across the University of Manchester Faculty of Science and Engineering and The University of Salford’s School of Science, Engineering and Environment.
We are also planning a dedicated sensory room, created with the SEND and Deaf communities in mind, and BSL interpreters will be available on the day to help make the event as welcoming and accessible as possible. Adding to the fun, Rochdale Exchange’s much-loved Comic-Con characters will be transformed into Sci-Con characters, bringing extra energy, imagination and excitement to the event.
And that’s just the beginning – we still have many more exciting activities and partners to announce.
Please like, share and follow for updates.
