ROBIN HANCOCK moved to Ellijay in May after spending the majority of her adult life in the metro Atlanta area. Moving to North Georgia has been a life-long dream, as she is an outdoor enthusiast, and thus has spent a small fortune on weekend rental cabins. Her daughter, Courtney and her family, which includes Robin’s three grandchildren, live in nearby Blairsville. Being able to spend more time with them is a bonus. Robin’s son, Sam, is a senior at Georgia State University, where he studies Geo-Sciences.
Robin retired in 2016 from service work as a State of Georgia employee, specifically the Georgia Student Finance Commission – responsible for administering the Hope Scholarship and Grant Programs, as well as other state sponsored grants. During this time, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Shorter University.
After retirement, Robin was an interpretive ranger at Fernbank’s 65-acre old growth forest, during which time she completed her Certification as a Forest Therapy Guide, and founded her company, Renewal by Nature. As a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Robin has guided dozens of walks, including hundreds of participants. At the end of July, Robin retired a second time from a pet sitting and dog walking company in Atlanta, where she began walking dogs in 2018 and ended up serving as the General Manager.
Robin has enjoyed becoming connected with various communities and activities in Ellijay, including opportunities at Mountain Light UUC. In addition to participating in various activities at MLUUC, she also enjoys checking out area restaurants, hiking, golfing, drumming, geocaching, and spending time with her daughter and grandkids. She also makes frequent trips to Atlanta to visit her father who is in assisted living in Decatur, as well as lunch dates with her son.
Robin’s spiritual life is rather “home grown”, drawing from various resonating spiritual practices, which she then tailors to meet her needs for spiritual growth. Robin finds purpose in service work, nurturing her relationships with others, and her healing work as a Forest Therapy Guide.
