Robert Lee Balderrama, born February 27, 1950, in O’Donnell, Texas, is an influential guitarist best known as a founding member of Question Mark & the Mysterians, the garage rock pioneers behind the 1966 chart-topping hit “96 Tears”. Growing up in Saginaw, Michigan, Balderrama learned guitar from his family and, at age 15, helped shape the distinctive sound that made the Mysterians legends of both garage rock and early punk. In later years, he expanded his musical reach, founding blues and jazz projects like The Robert Lee Band and the Robert Lee Revue.
