Rob Scheps - Saxophone & Flute
Oregon native Rob Scheps began studying the tenor saxophone at age nine. He grew up on Long Island, New York. After graduating high school, he enrolled in the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. There he received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with Honors in Performance.
While living in the Boston area, Rob formed and led his own groups, including the True Colors Big Band. In 1988 he moved to New York, where he formed the Rob Scheps Core-tet and the Bartokking Heads, firmly establishing himself on the jazz scene.
Not content to limit himself, Rob continued to take on new challenges. He formed new bands on both coasts. He served as a faculty member at the Mannes College of Music. He worked with contemporary music ensembles. All while performing with some of the most noted and influential big bands of our age, such as the Gil Evans Orchestra and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
In addition to his jazz credentials, Rob been an active part of the classical, theater, and popular music communities. For 13 years, he served as the Principal Saxophone with the Oregon Symphony. He was part of the national tour of Porgy and Bess with the Charleston Symphony, and the New York City Opera orchestra for Wonderful Town. He has worked on Broadway on productions such as CATS and Miss Saigon. He has appeared with such legends as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Liza Minnelli, and Linda Ronstadt. His range is best shown by viewing his 'Performances' page, showing the diversity of those with whom he has worked.
Rob has recorded on over 35 albums. His most recent releases, by the Rob Scheps Core-tet, are the critically acclaimed Comencio on Steeplechase Records and Live at Smalls on Smalls Records.

David Kingsnorth - Bass David Kingsnorth has performed with the John Abercrombie/Rob Scheps Quartet, Eliot Zigmund, Joshua Breakstone, Oscar Brown Jr., Richard Wyands, Frank Jackson, the New Jersey Ballet, and the Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea. He is originally from California, where he studied with John Clayton and received degrees in math and music from the University of California, Berkeley. He also received a master’s degree in classical performance from Montclair State University, where he studied with Linda McKnight.
Tim Horner - Drums Tim Horner is a native son of Roanoke Va. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1979 Tim moved to Brooklyn New York in 1980 . Since moving to New York Tim has shared the stages of so many of New Yorks major venues such as The Village Vanguard, Birdland, The Blue Note, Lincoln Center, Dizzy's Coca Cola. The artists he has worked these venues with span a large cross section of jazz history performing with people such as Hank Jones, Clifford Jordan, Pepper Adams, Joe Locke, Randy Brecker, Vic Juris, The Village Vanguard Orchestra, The Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Frank Kimbrough, Roseanna Vitro, Ann Hampton Calloway, Mark Murphy, Joe Williams, Dick Oatts, Red Rodney, Mark Sherman, Ted Rosenthal, Bill Cunliffe and Rufus Reid. In this span of 41 years he has also recorded over 250 recordings as a sideman and 3 of his own personal projects of original compositions. Since 2000 he has been a 5 time Jazz Ambassador for the US State Dept. concertizing and teaching in over 20 countries throughout The World.
Larry Hamm — Piano Larry Hamm is a pianist who has spent decades playing alongside some of the finest musicians in jazz—and he brings that experience, sophistication and swing to every performance. A veteran of the New York jazz scene, Hamm began his professional career with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and went on to perform with jazz legends including Illinois Jacquet, Junior Cook and Dakota Staton, as well as many of today’s leading jazz artists.
His playing has taken him to some of the world’s most celebrated stages, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note, the Village Vanguard and Birdland, as well as major jazz festivals throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Africa. He has even performed at the White House.
Hamm is equally accomplished as a recording artist. His albums have earned international critical acclaim, with Cadence Jazz Magazine praising his playing as “masterful,” while All About Jazz described him as a pianist “well on his way to becoming a master.”
But credentials only tell part of the story. Hamm is a pianist who knows how to make a room come alive—combining impeccable technique with swing, soul, sophistication and an instinctive ability to connect with the musicians around him.

Jim O’Connor - Trumpet A Croton-on-Hudson native, Jim O’Connor graduated from The Juilliard School and has freelanced in the New York City area for many years, performing with John Pizzarelli, Toshiko Akioshi, Rosemary Clooney, They Might Be Giants, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and many Broadway shows.
We're sorry, there are no refunds after tickets have been purchased. In the event of a pandemic, rain, snow, or other forms of weather which prohibit a performance, the performance date will be postponed and rescheduled for another date within a reasonable amount of time. If the new date is postponed, a future alternate date will be picked at the discretion of Bethel Jazz and the musical artist. The ticket holder will be notified of postponements, cancelations, and rescheduled dates via email. Tickets are non-refundable and may be transferred to another person in the event a purchaser can not make the rescheduled date. In the event, an artist cancels a date, and Bethel Jazz is unable to reschedule the artist, Bethel Jazz reserves the right to provide a substitute performer of equal quality without notice to the ticket purchaser. If a date is canceled and not rescheduled, Bethel Jazz will provide a refund (in some cases minus the Eventbrite fee) or credit for another performance at the choice of the ticket holder. Bethel Jazz will always do its best to accommodate for changes in seating, table sizes, or changes to tickets.
