ROAM Multi-Day Walking Adventure

Join us for this adventurous multi-day hiking event on Saturday June 7th, Sunday June 8th, or both days!

Plans include miscellaneous guided walks along Sullivan County's picturesque O&W Rail Trail and D&H Canal Trail throughout the Town of Mamakating and through the Village of Wurtsboro.
Free Admission! At checkout, you can add-on a suggested donation that will go towards event expenses, as well as a "Camping per Family" pass to camp at the Mamakating Little League Field Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Saturday Includes: Complimentary breakfast and guided/self-guided walks to-and-from the D&H Canal Interpretive Center. The walk to the Interpretive Center is approximately 6 miles one-way. Walking both-ways is approximately 12 miles total. A shuttle will be available for those who only want to walk 6 miles. Dogs are not allowed to be transported inside the shuttle.
Sunday Includes: Pancake breakfast at the Wurtsboro Firehouse (Pay at the door) and a guided walk along the O&W trail to visit the Mamakating Environmental Education Center. From there, particpants may choose to walk further south along the O&W trail. The walk to the Mamakating Environmental Education Center is approximately 3.5 miles, and to continue further south will be approximtely 5.5 miles total. A shuttle will be available for those who only want to walk 3.5 miles or for those who want to walk all 5.5 miles. Dogs are not allowed to be transported inside the shuttle.

Info: Saturday's breakfast will be complimentary and will be available at the check-in table at the Emma Chase Elementary School parking lot from 7-9am.

Info: The guided bird walk will leave at 7:30am from the Emma Chase School parking lot, led by Nick Hawvermale. The walk is approximately 6 flat miles and will head north to the D&H Canal Interpretive Center in Summitville. Learn more about Nick from his website at nickhawphoto.com

Info: Is 7:30am too early for you, or perhaps bird watching is not your thing? Leave anytime between 8am and 10am from the Emma Chase School parking lot and walk up to the D&H Canal Interpretive Center in Summitville on your own, which is around 5.5 flat miles.

Info: During this time, tour and explore the grounds of the D&H Canal Linear Park and Interpretive Center in Summitville. There will also be some tables set up, such as by the Open Space Institute (OSI), where you can learn more about the O&W Rail Trail, its history, and the initiatives they have taken to help the O&W Rail Trail Alliance advocate for development of the trail.

Info: If you prefer not to wake up early or can't walk up to the D&H Canal Interpretive Center in Summitville, there will be a shuttle to bring you there from the Emma Chase School parking lot at 11:30am.

Info: Join us for a guided walk from Summitville back to the Emma Chase School which is another 6 flat miles. If you can't walk that much or don't want to, take the shuttle back!

Info: Don't want to or can't walk back to the Emma Chase School? Take the shuttle back from 1pm to 2pm.

Info: Explore downtown Wurtsboro's shops and restaurants on your own until camping set-up which can begin as early as 5pm. This is your time to do whatever you would like; whether you want to explore Wurtsboro and grab dinner until camping, leave the area and come back later to camp, or leave for the day, it's all up to you.

Info: Join us for camping Saturday night at the Mamakating Little League Field located at 184 South Road in Wurtsboro. Ticket add-on is $15 per family. Proceeds from camping will go towards benefiting the Little League's operating budget. Camping setup at this location can begin as early as 5pm on Saturday evening.

Info: All items must be packed up and cleared from the field by 10am. Items may be left in your car until the end of the day. Any cars located at the Little League Field must be moved to the Emma Chase parking lot by 10am.

Info: The Wurtsboro firemen will be holding a pancake breakfast at their firehouse in the Village of Wurtsboro. A hearty breakfast will be available at a reasonable cost at the door. Proceeds will go to benefit the volunteer fire department.

Info: Meet for this guided walk to leave at 10am from the Emma Chase School parking lot to the Mamakating Environmental Education Center using the O&W Rail Trail. This walk is approximately 3.5 flat miles. We will check everyone in here prior to beginning the walk.

Info: Tour the Mamakating Environmental Education Center starting around 11:30am upon arrival. Lunch and beverages will be provided for guests around noon.

Info: For those who want to leave for the day after the tour of the Mamakating Environmental Education Center, take this optional shuttle back to your car at the Emma Chase parking lot.

Info: This will be approximately a 2-mile flat walk from MEEC and should take about an hour for all to arrive around 3pm. Adults are encouraged to check out the Bashakill Vineyards & Winery located across the street from the destination. Only children 12 years and older are allowed at the vineyard and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Don't want to go to the vineyard or have to leave? Take the shuttle back to your car at 3pm.
