About this Event

Great Comp Garden is an exceptionally beautiful 7-acre garden surrounding an early 17th century manor near Sevenoaks/Borough Green in Kent.

Renowned storyteller Andy Copps will be on tour in 2024, and visiting Great Comp Garden on Thursday 8th August to enthral, enlighten and entertain with his telling of the classic Roald Dahl novel ‘Billy and the Minpins’.

Andy’s hugely popular storytelling sessions have gripped children and the young at heart the length and breadth of the UK.

This charismatic storyteller enjoys interacting with his audience, using the diverse yet beautiful rhythms and sounds of Dahl’s language, instruments, and even authentic animal sound recordings to bring the story to life.

Little Billy was awfully tired of having to stay inside and wanted to go and explore the big secret wood. His mother wouldn’t let him, saying the forest was full of the most blood-thirsty creatures the world has ever seen. Did little Billy listen to his mother? What do you think?’

‘All the trees in this forest are hollow. Not just this one, but all of them. And inside them thousands and thousands of Minpins are living. These great trees are filled with rooms and staircases, not just in the big main trunk but in most of the other branches as well’.

Andy invites you to journey with him into Billy’s world, full of adventure and excitement that will leave you holding your breath and laughing out loud.

The performance typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

Storytelling is not about reading a story to a child. It is so much more. It is hard-wired into us as human beings. It is how we have survived for thousands of years. It should therefore be no surprise that a story such as ‘Billy and the Minpins’, well thought out and told is so incredibly powerful.
