The Society for Commercial Archeology is working to call attention to the potential loss of these national treasures, and help coordinate action to protect the most vulnerable properties.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Josh Silber is a New York City-based litigation attorney by day and a road-trip-loving travel photographer whenever he gets the chance. A lifelong New Yorker, he has a longstanding interest in the commercial landscapes of the mid-20th century, particularly vintage signage, theaters, and storefronts.
He travels regularly throughout the United States and abroad, photographing roadside and urban commercial architecture, with a focus on design, typography, and preservation. Cuba has been a recurring destination, where he has documented its remarkable concentration of mid-century signage and organized trips for other photographers with similar interests.
His work focuses on documenting the optimism of 20th-century commerce while supporting its recognition and preservation. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, and Vienna.
