Restore Hibiscus and Bays is working with Te Herenga Waka o Orewa to restore the marae grounds, riverbank and clean up the awa. In June, we planted oioi where the removal of the derelict tug Wakatลซ had churned up the riverank, and transplanted mฤakoako (sea primrose) into this area too.
Join us for a couple of hours as the mahi continues. We will be:
- giving the new plants some aroha by removing encroaching weeds
- removing some of the weeds from last year's planting site
- tackling some of the ecological weeds such as Japanese honeysuckle which threaten the native plants
- plus there is more clean up of the river and riverbank to do
We would love for the community to join us! Everyone is welcome.
What to bring: Gardening gloves, water bottle, snacks, sturdy shoes/boots. Dress for the weather.
