Join LHF at our headquarters on 12th Street (otherwise known as Bragassa) for the opening of a new exhibit on May 1st! LHF and the Virginia Canals and Navigations Society present the history of transportation on the river that built our city! With a special focus on the batteau, join us to learn about amazing figures like the Rucker Brothers who first invented the unique watercraft, and Frank Padgett, the enslaved batteauman turned rescuer when a packet boat floundered in turbulent waters.
