Custom House Studios + Gallery cordially invites you to the official opening of reception for Rites of Homing, a sole exhibition by artist Christine Prescott on Thursday, 9 July at 6pm. Official opening by Alannah Robins, director of Interface Inagh.
Christine Prescott's new solo exhibition traverses the emotional and ecological distance between the semi-arid plains of Australia and the rain-rich island of Ireland. Through meditative engagement with materiality and handcrafted processes, Prescott’s art ritually navigates migration, exploring how sites of nurture and nourishment can be found within unfamiliar landscapes.
She was formally trained in Sculpture and Textiles, receiving a BFA
from the University of Southern Queensland (2000) and a PGDip from the Victorian College of Arts, Melbourne (2002). She has exhibited widely throughout Australia, Ireland, Germany, Singapore and Indonesia. Her work has been supported by the Australian Council for the Arts, the Arts Council of Ireland and Mayo County Council Arts Service and is held in private collections internationally.
Prescott has been working as an artist in resident here at the Custom House for the last 3 years, She creates poetic sculptural assemblages and works on paper using organic materials. Harvesting, weaving, stitching, and repetitive mark-making recur in her practice as slow, meditative rituals.
Rites of Homing marks her fi rst solo exhibition in Ireland.
