Join us at the historic Hawaii Theatre on Tuesday, September 9 for a special screening of the 1951 classic The African Queen, starring Hollywood legends Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. Directed by John Huston, this beloved adventure-romance follows a spirited missionary and a gruff riverboat captain as they embark on a perilous journey through East Africa during World War I. Battling treacherous rapids, enemy forces, and their own clashing personalities, the unlikely duo finds courage, love, and unexpected heroism along the way.

Praised for its rich performances, lush cinematography, and thrilling story, The African Queen earned Bogart his only Academy Award for Best Actor and remains a timeless testament to resilience and human connection. Experience the magic of this cinematic treasure on the big screen, where its sweeping landscapes and unforgettable characters come to life as originally intended.

Don’t miss this chance to revisit — or discover for the first time — one of the most celebrated films of the 20th century in the grandeur of Hawaii’s “Pride of the Pacific.” Tickets are available now for a morning of classic Hollywood adventure and romance.

The Hawaii Theatre and the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation are offering the community a film series to provide seniors and other cinema lovers an opportunity to enjoy a morning of camaraderie with coffee, snacks, and a classic movie. Over the course of the year, we’ll present this series and offer tickets on a “pay what you can” basis. Lobby opens at 10:30 AM with complimentary sponsored coffee! Showtime is 11:30 AM.
