Ripple In, Ripple Out

Join us for an evening of art in the garden with local artist, counselor, and gardener, Katie Cahill!

Together, we’ll explore how the patterns of the natural world, from the spiral of a sunflower to the curling swirls of a sea shell, can guide us inward, helping us uncover what longs to be seen, felt, and expressed.

We begin by rippling in: turning gently toward ourselves through exploratory mark-making, a creative practice open to all, regardless of experience. Here, there is no right or wrong, only the invitation to make marks that are true to you in that moment. For some, art may bring old narratives of “not good enough.” Let this be a space where that story dissolves, where curiosity replaces judgment, and self-expression becomes a form of care.

And then we ripple out: into community. Creating side by side, we remember the simple beauty of belonging without performance. Our individual gestures become part of a shared rhythm, a quiet tide of creativity that connects us—to ourselves, to nature, and to each other.

This workshop will be set in Backyard Growers' courtside community gardens at Burnham's Field in Gloucester. Art supplies, seating, and beverages will be provided. Please check in at the BYG tent upon arrival.

About the facilitator, Katie Cahill, LMHC, ATR: Katie is a licensed mental health counselor and registered art therapist with a private practice in Gloucester. She is also a Reiki practitioner and an aspiring gardener of personal growth, healing, and hope, as well as a gardener of actual vegetables! Language can often be limiting. By exploring one's world through the creative process, one can gain new perspectives, express oneself more fully, and shine in their inner wisdom.
