RIOT: Art As Resistance - A Group Exhibition by The Gallery ATX

The Gallery ATX presents “RIOT: Art as Resistance,” a celebration of the power of art as a tool for defiance and empowerment, featured in Big Medium's Austin Studio Tour. Inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement and its legacy, this group exhibition features artists confronting systemic oppression and advocating for justice through their work.

“RIOT” aims to amplify voices that challenge prevailing narratives and inspire collective action. The selected artworks embrace queerness, gender liberation, intersectional feminism, and the varied experiences of marginalized communities, including indigenous, Black, Brown, and nonwhite individuals. These pieces provoke viewers to question, resist, and reclaim their power, drawing parallels between past and present struggles.

“RIOT” is a rallying cry for change. We invite you to participate in this celebration of defiance and creativity, where every piece is an act of resistance.

Beneficiary Information

The Gallery ATX is partnering with ATX Events for Palestine to direct 100% of donations, 100% of zine sales, and 30% of proceeds from artwork sales to support a family in Gaza.

The Gallery ATX presenta "RIOT: Arte como Resistencia", una celebración del poder del arte como herramienta de desafío y empoderamiento, presentada en el Austin Studio Tour de Big Medium. Inspirada por el movimiento Riot Grrrl y su legado, esta exposición colectiva presenta a artistas que confrontan la opresión sistémica y abogan por la justicia a través de su trabajo.

"RIOT" tiene como objetivo amplificar voces que desafían las narrativas predominantes e inspiran la acción colectiva. Las obras seleccionadas abrazan la diversidad sexual, la liberación de género, el feminismo interseccional y las variadas experiencias de comunidades marginadas, incluyendo a personas indígenas, negras, morenas y no blancas. Estas piezas provocan a los espectadores a cuestionar, resistir y reclamar su poder, trazando paralelismos entre las luchas del pasado y del presente.
