The 2026 Rio Grande State of the Basin Symposium is a free, public event aimed at informing participants about important topics related to the San Luis Valley's natural and cultural resources. Colorado-based environmental journalist Ben Goldfarb will be the keynote speaker. His writing has appeared major national publications, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Smithsonian Magazine, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Orion Magazine, and National Geographic. He will be speaking primarily about his book Eager: The Surprising Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter (2018).
