About this Event
Show Description
The Toronto Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society presents our annual tradition of a December show with a selection of holiday favourites, playing of the merry organ, guest quartets, and audience sing-alongs! In addition, we have a number of exciting new announcements:
The Northern Lights returns to stage, but this time under new direction! Who will it be? Stay tuned to find out more! Come see our show and see for yourself!
The Lakeshore Voices - newly named and ready to sing - join us for our second performance together this season. The mixed-voices ensemble formed earlier this year and is also announcing a new director!
The beautiful organ at the Metropolitan United Church is a sight and sound to behold, and we would be remiss if we didn't capitalize on the opportunity to hear it masterfully played! We look forward to luxuriating in the wall of sound from its brass pipes, and singing along with it as well!
Announcing new directors always has another side to it: saying farewell to old ones. Andrew Carolan has guided this chapter and pushed it to new heights, navigating the pandemic and regrowth of the Northern Lights as well as facilitating the creation of a new ensemble alongside Nicky McGrath. We're so excited for what is ahead, and grateful for the essential role that Andrew has played in leading us here! Our show will honour Andrew in the only way we know how: with music! You won't want to miss this (possibly once-in-a-lifetime) performance!
Accessibility
The show will be about 2 hours long with an intermission. Washrooms are on-site and the venue is wheelchair-accessible. Doors will be open at 2:30 p.m. and seating will be arranged on a first-come, first-served basis (rush seating).
This show features live music being sung a cappella with amplification. The music is not tremendously loud, but the organ will also be played and the volume of this instrument will be much greater. In addition, this show features a sing-along portion which may involve audience being invited to stand and sing as they are able.
Song selections are family-friendly, although the expectation of audiences during the concert is that they remain seated unless absolutely necessarily, and quietly leave the room if needing to stand, talk, or otherwise make noise during the performance, as a point of consideration for fellow audience members as well as performers. We ask that cell phones be turned off during the performance, as the signals from cell phones can at times interfere with the sound equipment we use (including conversations being heard through our speakers).
