Set in the 1980s, a hapless Minister of Transport boards the Leeds sleeper train to deliver his resignation speech. He has no idea of the disastrous evening that is to come. Travelling with him are his domineering and resilient wife, an irate British Rail MD with a no-nonsense spouse, a lovesick catering manager, a flamboyant train manager, and a Yorkshire honeymooning couple who are not scared of a glass of scotch. An ill-advised late-night liaison with the ever-resourceful conductor, Eddy triggers a hilarious chain of mistaken identities, costume swaps, faked deaths and frantic cover-ups. With reputations on the line and a drunken journalist on board, the Minister attempts to cover it all up with fibs that get bigger and bigger until they come back to bite.
