The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is hosting Fairmont State University's debate team on Monday, March 23rd, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Folklife Center.Debaters will participate in public debate on right-to-work laws features two teams presenting opposing arguments about whether workers should be required to join or financially support a union as a condition of employment. The affirmative side typically emphasizes worker freedom, economic competitiveness, and individual choice, while the negative highlights the laws’ impact on wages, workplace protections, and the long-term strength of organized labor. The debate encourages audiences to weigh questions of economic policy, worker rights, and the broader role of unions in shaping local and national labor markets.
