On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, cyclists in Nolensville will join thousands of riders around the world for the annual Ride of Silence.
This ride honors bicyclists who have been injured or killed while riding on public roadways. It also serves as a reminder that cyclists have a legal right to share the road and deserve to be seen and respected.
This year’s ride is especially meaningful as we ride in honor of Blaise Schaeffer, who was killed while cycling on December 10, 2025. Blaise loved cycling, and he loved his life. He brought energy, humor, and kindness to the people around him. This ride is a way to remember him and to stand together for safer roads so tragedies like this do not continue to happen.
Blaise was a veteran road racer, competing in over 100 events, including some of America’s hardest stage races: Tour of America’s Dairyland in Wisconsin, Tour of the Gila in New Mexico and Tour of North Georgia, where he finished on the podium in 2025 after the first stage.
The Ride of Silence began in 2003 and now takes place in cities across the world. Riders move at a slow pace and remain silent throughout the ride to show respect for those who have been lost.
Ride Guidelines and Details:
In honor of Blaise achieving his goal of cycling 12,000 miles, which he reached the day before he died, we will ride 12 miles. This should take roughly one hour.
• Slow paced ride with a maximum speed of 12 mph
• Helmets required
• Follow all rules of the road
• Riders remain silent during the ride
Armbands:
• Red armbands may be worn by riders who have been hit while cycling
• Black armbands may be worn by those riding in memory of someone who has died while cycling
Additional Details:
• Before the ride begins, there will be a space to remember cyclists who have lost their lives, including their names, ages, and the year they were killed
• Please RSVP so we can ensure enough armbands are available. You are also welcome to bring your own red or black armband
• Everyone is welcome to join, whether you are an experienced cyclist, casual rider, friend, family member, or community supporter
This is a free community event. If you or your organization would like to sponsor the ride or contribute in any way, please feel free to reach out.
Whether you ride regularly or simply want to show support for safer roads, we invite you to join us in honoring Blaise and remembering cyclists who have been lost.
