About this Event
E-bikes are changing how people move through New Jersey, but new state rules are making it harder for everyday riders to use them safely and legally.
On Thursday May 21 from 11 am to 1 pm, the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition and partners from across the state are gathering in Trenton for a Ride & Rally for a Better E-Bike Law.
Schedule
10:30 am – Meet + check-in at Mill Hill Park (ride participants)
11:00 am – Group ride departs
11:30 am – State House rally begins (all participants welcome)
All ride participants must complete a waiver before joining the ride. A link to the waiver will be provided after registration and on-site at check-in.
Not riding? You can join us directly at the New Jersey State House at 11:30 am for the rally.
This event is open to everyone. Whether you ride an e-bike, a traditional bike, or simply care about safer and more accessible transportation in New Jersey, your presence helps show that this issue affects communities across the state.
Why We’re Rallying
We’re coming together to call for clearer, fairer rules that support low-speed e-bike riders, delivery workers, commuters, and families who rely on bikes to get around.
E-bikes are how teens get to school, college students get across campus and between transit stops, workers get to jobs, seniors who may no longer drive stay connected to daily life, and people without cars get around their communities. They are also an important mobility tool for riders with disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum who may rely on cycling for independence and access. They also support recreation, fitness, and everyday riding across New Jersey.
But the current law has created confusion and new barriers for responsible riders while not addressing the real safety concerns tied to high-speed e-motorcycles (e-motos).
Local bike shops are already seeing the impact firsthand, and lawmakers need to hear directly from the people affected.
New Jersey’s current e-bike law is creating unintended barriers for people who rely on bikes for everyday transportation, including high school students, college students, workers, delivery riders, and people without access to a car.
At the same time, it does not adequately address safety concerns around high-speed e-motorcycles (e-motos) that are often grouped into the same category.
Riders, delivery workers, and bike shops are already experiencing confusion and consequences in real time. This rally is about ensuring lawmakers hear directly from the people most affected and understand what daily transportation looks like across the state so we can change the law before it’s too late.
