Golden hour was upon us that day, April 13, 2025. It had been a beautiful Sunday. Beyden, a lifetime thrill seeker, spent the day riding his electric skateboard and working outside in the yard. After going to the store with his sister and partner, he was told that they didn’t need his help organizing the groceries so he decided to take one more quick ride before heading to a family dinner. At 5:09 pm he told his mom “oh, I’ll come in that case,” when told what dinner would be, Tinga Verde, a Mexican dish. Little did he know, he would head toward that southern sky for the last time that day. Beyden Javier Mendieta-Olive passed away around 5:30 pm on April 13th, 2025 from a traumatic brain injury while riding on Grants Trail. He was wearing his favorite t-shirt that read “Do Good & Be Nice.”
“Ride Alive” was created to raise awareness for DOT approved helmets and trail safety.
It is believed that Beyden was trying to make it to Union rd and back in record time that day.
No one knows how or why but speeding was definitely a contributing factor when he fell off his electric skateboard, “El Diablo,” by EVOLVE. Although he was wearing a helmet, it was damaged from a previous fall and unfortunately was not DOT approved (Department of transportation)
430 pm meet @ 7100 Morganford Rd St. Louis mo 63116
Roll 5:09 sharp
All wheels and skill levels welcome
Ride will start on Morganford rd (heading South) and then east on Germanía to Gravois Greenway to access Grants trail.
We’ll stop for a moment of silence at Beyden’s memorial site and then ride on to Union rd where we’ll then turn around and return to the starting point.
If you would like to donate what you can to Beyden’s mom, Amanda, via Applepay , Venmo (@AmandaPunkyJoleneOlive) or Cashapp ($PunkyJolene), the proceeds will go to the purchase of our tie dye bracelets that Amanda places in a box at the memorial site for anyone to take when they pass by and also hands them out at family friendly events and festivals! 300 bracelets cost around $100
As parents we do everything we can to keep our kids safe. Once they are adults, they make their own decisions and all we can hope for is that they hear us when we tell them to be careful. Do Good & Be Nice. Use DOT approved helmets. RIDE ALIVE
