After an After an extended absence, Rhyze Mushrooms will once more compete in the legendary Canal Festival raft race in our very own mycelium Viking ship. Come along to cheer for team Valhalla Sporeva to win in 2026. Be sure to make a few offerings to the God’s in advance, in the hopes that they will bless our craft will greater seaworthiness than we had in days of yore!
Join us afterwards for a Potluck Picnic at Harrison Park West, where we will share some food, maybe crack open a tin or two and have some good informal chats with each other.
Order of the Day: Meet at the Union Canal near the Leamington Lift Bridge for the Canal Festival raft race from 12 noon. We will have some mushroom/Viking themed signs. Officially the race ends at 4pm, but we might not last that long.
We will head to Harrison Park West for a pot luck picnic no later than 4pm and will be around until at least 6pm, possibly later depending on the weather and how folk are feeling. Please bring food to share - vegan food is encouraged.
We will have some vegan mushroom treats to share with everyone, and feel free to bring some cans if so desired.
Accessibility Info - the closest toilets to the Raft Race are the toilets at the Edinburgh Printmakers. There aren’t many public toilets near Harrison Park, though you can use one at the Merchiston Community Center. Lauren (a member of staff) also lives nearby and you can use the toilet at their house if needed.
To get to Harrison Park West from the raft race you can just walk or cycle along the canal which is mostly flat and smooth. There are a few cobbles under one of the bridges.
You can also take the 10 or 27 bus a few stops and get off at Polwarth Parish Church.
