Rhythms of Forró - Percussion Workshop with Matheus BorgesThis workshop is all about rhythm - learning it, feeling it, and playing it. With musician Matheus Borges, we’ll explore Forró’s musical structure using several instruments: zabumba, triângulo, agogô, pandeiro, and reco-reco. It’s a hands-on experience where you will actively play and connect with the sounds that shape Forró.
In this interactive workshop we will combine vocal and movement exercises with instrument practice. We’ll start by exploring rhythm in a fun and accessible way, helping you understand the music as musicians do. Then, we’ll dive into the instruments and how they work together to create the characteristic grooves of Forró.
For Forró dancers, this is a great chance to understand the music on a deeper level. When you know how the rhythm is built, it changes the way you dance – you’ll start feeling the music differently, connecting with it more naturally, and responding to it in new ways.
For those interested in percussion and South American rhythms, this workshop offers insight into Forró as a musical tradition. Forró is not just one rhythm but a group of rhythms, and we’ll explore several of them, including Forró, Baião, Xote, and Arrasta-Pé. You’ll get to experience their unique patterns and how each one brings a different feel and energy to the music.
No prior experience needed – just bring your curiosity and love for Forró!
