At the Rhythm Keepers workshops, we'll playfully explore improvised musical ensemble techniques to support transformational community ritual. We’ll meet intermittently throughout the winter months to strengthen our ritual musicianship for the Awakening Light and Spring Equinox rituals.
Who’s This For?
~ Anyone with a desire to serve community ritual by making music together
~ No advanced musical experience required
What Will We Explore?
~ Using percussion to support trance, transitions, emotional safety, and the flow of ritual
~ Listening to and adapting to the ritual energy and musical conversation
~ Supporting ritual guides and accompanying ritual songs and chants
~ The 3 roles within an ensemble - foundation, embellishment, and lead – and how they come together to create the whole
~ Intentionally cultivating emotions like joy, wonder, contemplation, connection, and peace through rhythm and dynamics
~ Using different rhythms and instruments
~ Practicing improvisation and group creativity
Can I Bring My Own Drums?
~ Yes! Please bring any drums, shakers, chimes, or other instruments you'd enjoy playing. We'll also have a number of instruments available for anyone who needs one.
A note for our Dragons' Scales: Please join us! This series will complement, not compete with, the Dragons' Scales choir. We’ll have an instrumental focus, including exploring rhythms that support community chants and Dragons' Scales songs for the rituals.
