Join us for a celebration of Lenaia, an Ancient Greek winter festival in honor of Dionysos and the maenads. Lenaia was celebrated around January with feasting, drinking, and all-night dances. Our all-ages dry event will channel that same festive spirit! We’ll start with a toasting round to Dionysos and the maenads over sparkling grape juice, then dance and drum to raise joyful energy. Dancing is optional; a sense of whimsy is required. Wear your best bacchant attire (ivy crowns, thyrsoi, goat horns, leopard skins, satyr-shorts) or just come as you are– we’ll be thrilled to have you.
Note on inclusivity: In ancient times, the all-night dances at the Lenaia were performed by women, but the rest of this joyous festival was for people from walks of all life. Today the Palladium welcomes people of all genders to participate in all aspects of all of our events.
The Potomac Valley Palladium is a local chapter of Hellenion, an Inclusive Hellenic Pagan organization. This ritual will be run by Rose Eleusis (she/her), their clergy student. Email her at rose.eleusis(at)gmail(dot)com with any questions.
Donations are appreciated, but never required. Your presence is what truly matters!
