About this Event

She Builds Birmingham is back! Kind of - through a new indepedent name:

REX: Women in Construction!

REX: Women in Construction is a welcoming networking event bringing together women and male allies working across construction, retrofit and the built environment.

Some of you may know it under a previous name: She Builds Birmingham. Hosted by Jessica Shuker during her time at South and City College Birmingham. Following that journey and the incredible community that grew from it, this next chapter now continues independently through REX: Women in Construction, creating a dedicated space for connection, support, honest conversations and industry collaboration.

Taking place at the beautiful Medicine Bakery in Birmingham’s Mailbox, expect a relaxed and supportive atmosphere with meaningful networking, fantastic conversations, tea, coffee and incredible pastries in one of Birmingham’s most beautiful venues!

This session’s workshop theme: Imposter Syndrome in Construction & the Built Environment. The event will include a facilitated workshop led by Jessica Shuker focused on imposter syndrome, confidence and navigating spaces where women can often feel underestimated, isolated or pressured to constantly prove themselves.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • confidence within male-dominated industries
  • overcoming self-doubt and internal pressure
  • recognising achievements and professional value
  • managing difficult workplace dynamics
  • building supportive networks and community
  • practical strategies for growth, visibility and confidence

The session is designed to be conversational, supportive and engaging rather than overly formal, creating space for shared experiences and honest discussion.

Jessica Shuker is a qualified teacher with a strong background in industry engagement, education and women-focused initiatives across construction and retrofit. Through her work, she is passionate about creating spaces that support, encourage and empower women working across the sector.

What to expect:

  • Facilitated workshop session on imposter syndrome and confidence building
  • Networking with women and allies across construction, retrofit and the built environment
  • Tea, coffee and pastries from Medicine Bakery
  • Opportunities to build new industry connections in a relaxed environment
  • A supportive and welcoming atmosphere
