About this Event

Join us for a talk on how AI is and will affect your life now and into the future from experts in the field.

The evening will commence with an AR/VR Interactive Experience available in the lobby from 6-7pm.

Between 6 and 7pm in Studio 3 of the O’Donoghue Centre, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the world of augmented reality and virtual reality. In association with the Centre for Creative Technologies at the University of Galway, you can try out VR and AR headsets, which provide a fully immersive virtual experience. We will be showcasing content on the evening from the Immersive Empathy project, which saw participants from Galway Simon, Coláiste Éinde and Galway Community College work with the Centre to create their own VR films.

7pm: Talk

Speaker and MC, Professor Edward Curry, from University of Galway and Insight/DSI

Title: AI101: What will it mean to you?

He will discuss the challenges and opportunities for the current generation to shape our future digital society to benefit all citizens.

Speaker: Prof Cornelia Connolly, School of Education, University of Galway.

Title: AI and the future of Education.

In this talk James will describe how AI is being used to analyse and learn from music, and to generate new music, including examples from Irish traditional music. He’ll use this as a jumping-off point to also discuss some of the central points of controversy and different lines of new research in the field of AI.

Speaker: Dr. Conor Judge, Consultant Nephrologist, Electronic and Computer Engineer, PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Senior Lecturer in Applied Clinical Data Analytics at the University of Galway

Title: AI-powered Technology to Improve the Delivery of Healthcare

Conor's talk explores how artificial intelligence can transform clinical practice and research. He highlights real-world applications within the HSE, such as stroke imaging and natural language processing, while addressing the unmet needs in clinical research. Dr Judge will give tips on where young adults can get started with their own AI projects. The talk also emphasises the role of educational programmes in scaling AI innovation, offering a forward-looking vision for AI's impact on healthcare.

The event will followed by a short Q&A with the speakers.
