About this Event
Visitors to the Walt Whitman Birthplace will step into a living tableau of history during this interactive exhibit, where actors bring the Whitman family's Revolutionary past to life. Visitors will explore the space and encounter performers portraying family members who bravely served in the American Revolution, each sharing personal stories of hardship, hope, and resilience. Through authentic costumes, props, and engaging dialogue, guests will learn how daily life on Long Island was shaped by the presence of British troops, local patriot efforts, and the constant struggle for freedom. This exhibit, starting in April and running through December, will offer a powerful glimpse into the Whitman family's legacy, inviting you to imagine the challenges and triumphs faced during this pivotal era in American history.
"Revolutionary Voices" was written by playwright Jack Canfora, winner of two Edgerton Playwriting Awards.
