Over the next few years, Arlington, Virginia, and our whole country will be celebrating the nation’s 250 founding. Kevin Vincent will set the stage for the role that the area now known as Arlington County played during the Revolution. At that time, the 26 square miles had less than 2000 people, including the enslaved and the indentured. In fact, what would become Arlington was then part of Fairfax County but would soon become part of Washington, D.C. Despite our relatively tiny size and population then, as today, our forebears had an outsized role in our nation’s history. Residents of Northern Virginia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution. Mr. Vincent will lay the ground work for us as one of the series of commemorative events throughout our county that will highlight our nation’s successes, failures, and challenges.
Historic preservation is a hobby and a passion that Kevin Vincent has pursued for decades. Besides his service on the Board of the W3R (National Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association), he was a member of the Arlington County Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board for 15 years, including 3 years as Chairman. He is a member of the Arlington Historical Society committee that manages Arlington’s only extant 18th Century building — the Ball Sellers House — and leads an annual walking tour of property George Washington owned in what became Arlington County.
