Join the Allegany Museum for the second installment of our commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution.
On July 16, Dr. Emily Kasecamp, historian, professor, and Coordinator of the Allegany Museum, will explore how people living on the western edge of the British Empire experienced and influenced the growing colonial crisis that led to the American Revolution.
This program will focus on the Proclamation Line of 1763, a British policy that attempted to limit colonial settlement to the eastern side of the Appalachian Mountains. While intended to stabilize relations following the French and Indian War, the policy fueled tensions among colonists eager to expand westward and became one of many grievances that contributed to the revolutionary movement. Dr. Kasecamp will also examine the effects of the Proclamation Line and the American Revolution on the Native American nations living throughout the Allegheny Mountains and the Ohio Valley beyond.
At the Allegany Museum, local history tells the national story. Join us for a drink as we explore how the events that shaped our region also shaped the birth of the United States.
