Filmmaker: Directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois are American filmmakers known for their collaborative work on animated films like "Lilo & Stitch" (2002) and "How to Train Your Dragon" (2010). Sanders and DeBlois have a distinctive directorial style, often characterized by unique character designs, a strong emphasis on storytelling, and a focus on emotional resonance. They strive to create films that evoke a sense of warmth and emotional connection with their audience.
About the Film: A story about a young girl’s unexpected bond with the galaxy’s most wanted alien. Lilo, a spirited and lonely Hawaiian girl, adopts what she believes is a small, strange-looking dog, and names him Stitch. Unbeknownst to her, Stitch is actually a genetic experiment gone rogue, crash-landing on Earth while fleeing capture. As Lilo’s older sister, Nani, struggles to care for them both amid life’s challenges, the three form an unconventional but powerful family in the face of chaos from beyond the stars.

In the spirit of Reverie’s mission, “To precipitate positivity in the communities we serve”, our film series serves as a conduit to connect our communities, building awareness, forming alliances, and combining our resources to collectively help to improve the quality of life for those around us. Films are selected intentionally to connect audiences to novel causes, to promote ideas worth sharing, to illustrate opportunities to help, and to inform us about ourselves. By connecting with relevant local non-profit organizations, we collaborate to broaden awareness of the many opportunities to help within our communities.
Each film we select is connected to a monthly theme. Themes encompass one or more of the many great causes worthy of our awareness. Our non-profit partners share a common thread of identity that may be apparent in the theme of the film. Our intention is for films to attract considerate audiences that can benefit from becoming more aware of local causes of interest.
For August, our non-profit partner is the Wichita Animal Action League (WAAL) in celebration of National Dog Day. WAAL is dedicated to rescuing animals in crisis and supporting the human-animal bond through proactive and nonjudgmental community outreach programs designed to keep pets out of shelters and in loving homes, to provide access to veterinary services for all, and to reduce the staggering pet overpopulation crisis in our community.
Reverie supports Tallgrass Film Festival through annual sponsorship and the film series to help introduce the festival to a broader Wichita audience. All films are open to the public.
